![]() Even the world’s best supercomputer isn’t going to be able to calculate the theoretically optimal beacon layout until long after the heat death of the universe. This saying has never been more applicable than with NGU Industries. There exists a saying, “Perfect is the enemy of good”. You’ll see an example of this in action later. As such, small efficiency gains on items like flesh rockets can add up to considerable reduction on items like cardboard/glue tiles. With yellow beacons, you’re effectively realizing the efficiency gain for each step in the production chain prior to the factory being affected. Yellow beacons are uniquely excellent for the highest tier of factories, due to the way that ingredients tend to multiply down the chain, resulting in very high demand on your earliest tiers. Yellow beacons also apply multiplicatively against any base efficiency improvements for a given factory/tier. A hypothetical factory being hit by 8 yellow box beacons and 8 yellow knight beacons would have costs reduced to 8.9% of their original costs. This effectively means there are diminishing returns on their effectiveness. N yellow box beacons would reduce costs to 0.85^N of the original cost. These limitations effectively disappear pretty quickly, though, once you get the production multiplier of a factory to >10x. However, for low output factories, efficiency beacons are subject to breakpoints and effectively cap at a minimum cost of 1 per ingredient. These beacons are highly underrated because they are the games’ best solution for the higher tiers of factories/juice that otherwise demand ludicrous amounts of tier 1 factories. Yellow boxes boost efficiency by 15% (costs x0.85) and yellow knights boost efficiency by 13% (costs x0.87), meaning all things being equal, yellow boxes should be preferred over yellow knights. It’s for this reason that you’ll generally be better off alternating speed and productivity tiles throughout your maps, a*suming your factories are not either speed capped or at a very low base productivity. For example, a blue box and a purple box affecting the same factory (a*suming it’s not speed capped) would multiply overall production by 1.4*1.3=1.82. This means if you have a factory that only produces 1 item per bar fill, you’ll need to raise the productivity multiplier to a total of at least 2 in order to see an actual difference in productivity.īlue and purple beacons work together multiplicatively. While purple beacons are not subject to a cap like blue beacons, purple beacons are subject to breakpoints, particularly for new tiers of factories or juices. This means adding a second purple beacon provides a slightly smaller benefit than the first purple beacon does. Multiple purple beacons on the same tile stack additively, meaning a purple box and a purple knight hitting the same tile would cause productivity to be multiplied by (1+(.3+.35))=1.65. Purple boxes boost productivity by 30% and purple knights boost productivity by 35%, meaning all things being equal, purple knights should be preferred over purple boxes. Once a factory is at its speed cap, additional speed boosts are wasted on the factory. Blue beacons are also subject to a speed cap, which is different for each factory. This means adding a second blue beacon provides a slightly smaller benefit than the first blue beacon does. ![]() ![]() Multiple blue beacons on the same tile stack additively, meaning a blue box and a blue knight hitting the same tile would cause speed to be multiplied by (1+(.4+.35))=1.75. Knights hit all the spaces a knight piece in chess could move to.īlue beacons boost speed. Each beacon will hit 8 surrounding tiles, though in different arrangements. We have created a table below showing the speeds, timing and accumulated distance for each level. There is a more detailed table of norms for the beep test. Beep Test Tables For the beep fitness test, participants run out and back on a 20 meter course, with the running speed increasing at set intervals until they are unable to continue. This norms table below is based on personal experience, and gives you a very rough idea of what level score would be expected for adults, using the standard Australian beep test version. Record the last level completed (not necessarily the level stopped at). scoring: The athlete's score is the level and number of shuttles (20m) reached before they were unable to keep up with the recording. The test is stopped if the subject fails to reach the line (within 2 meters) for two consecutive ends after a warning. If the line is not reached before the beep sounds, the subject is given a warning and must continue to run to the line, then turn and try to catch up with the pace within two more ‘beeps’. Traditional aerobic conditioning is achieved mainly through either continuous or interval-based activity (running). If the line is reached before the beep sounds, the subject must wait until the beep sounds before continuing. After about one minute, a sound indicates an increase in speed, and the beeps will be closer together. The subject continues running between the two lines, turning when signaled by the recorded beeps. ![]() The participants stand behind one of the lines facing the second line, and begin running when instructed by the recording. For this reason the test is also often called the 'beep' or 'bleep' test.

The optimism bias also impacts our global response to climate change. Banks continued to engage in high-risk decision making and contributed to the growing economic bubble and its ultimate crash. 3 Financial analysts and investors had unrealistic expectations of financial growth and success. Cognitive neuroscientist and optimism expert Tali Sharot posits that the optimism bias was “one of the core causes of the financial downfall in 2008”. We can see this in how optimism bias impacts financial markets. While over-optimism can negatively impact us each individually, aggregation of overoptimism on a larger level can have an exponentially devastating impact. Yet, overall it is important to be aware of how our optimism can blind us to negative outcomes and result in poor decision making. It nudges us towards focusing on the positive without becoming preoccupied with the negative. It pushes us to believe in our own abilities. Optimism encourages us to persevere, even in the face of hardship or rejection. 2 It also can stop us from taking preventative measures, like buying insurance or using contraceptives. The optimism bias can encourage risky behaviors, like smoking, by causing us to ignore the potential for unwanted outcomes. ![]() We assume that we will make more money than others. ![]() We assume our relationships will last longer than they realistically might. We assume that projects will be completed in shorter amounts of time than they actually are. 1 However, as seen in Tom’s case, there are large costs to the optimism bias in our personal and professional lives. Research consistently supports that most of the population (estimated around 80%) exhibit an optimistic bias that arises in a variety of circumstances. Even though the past six businesses failed and environmental factors were working against him, Tom overestimated his chances for success and showed overconfidence in his abilities as an entrepreneur. In this scenario, Tom exhibits the optimism bias. However, like the businesses before his, Tom’s restaurant is not cultivating enough business. That’s made especially hard when you look at the max-effective range of the crossbow… out to between 25-50 yards if you ask most legit crossbow hunters.
